Windows 8 and its ARM-based sibling for non-intel tablets "Windows RT" introduce a new paradigm for building visual rich touch-enabled full screen apps that work great on tablet devices and can provide engaging user experiences on desktops as well.
Formerly referred to by Microsoft as "Metro", these applications build on a new runtime infrastructure and class library called WinRT that provides a secure sandboxed environment for applications to run, as well as safe ways, called "Contracts", for applications to interact with each other.
Oxygene is a first class citizen on WinRT and lets you build these "Metro" application using the .NET framework, WinRT APIs, XAML, and the programing language you know and love. Metro apps created in Oxygene are fully Windows 8 and Windows RT compatible, and can be sold in the Windows Store.
Note: Developing WinRT apps requires Windows 8 as development machine, and either Visual Studio 2012 Professional (or higher) or a parallel installation of [Visual Studio Express 2012 for Windows 8].
